"Regarding the individual and the collective I intend to express the brittle transiency of life and its humble beauty. The pure fact of matter from the minute to the infinite and its eternal ephemera".
Vida e Morte translates to ‘Life and Death’ and for me the work symbolizes the essence of the human condition; embodying the endless cycles of love, nature, life and death.
The ceramic technic that I developed for Vida e Morte possesses an ephemeral quality where by the work has an imminent and destructive end, leaving ceramic dust as the only remains. It suggests our frailties, self destructive tendencies and core strength to restore ourselves and rise from the "ashes". The cycles of nature are poignant here and a beating breath is the constant rhythm of the video work which when exhibited is played as an endless (loop) cycle.
Ceramic for me is the most poetic and "live" material to work with and none there is better to represent the human condition itself with its endless possibilities and iminent fragility.
